Shipping cars, motorcycles and boats from Greece
Trust us with the transport of your vehicle. We ship cars, motorcycles and boats out of Greece in containers from the port of Piraeus, or by road where the destination is in Europe. Customs clearance is handled by our own brokers.
What we ship
- Cars - private and commercial, new or used, by container or by road within Europe.
- Motorcycles - strapped to a purpose-made frame, on their own or alongside your household effects in the same container.
- Boats - pleasure craft, by whichever method suits their actual dimensions and weight.
We can arrange a special permit for you to drive your car to the customs loading area yourself and park it inside the container. You are also welcome to be present while your vehicle is chocked and lashed inside the container.
How it works
Inspection and photography of the vehicle → paperwork and deregistration → delivery to the loading area → loading and securing inside the container → Piraeus → export customs → loading onto the vessel → our destination partner briefed → import customs → delivery.
Before loading:
- The fuel tank must be almost empty (the reserve warning light should be on).
- Our partner at customs will disconnect the vehicle’s battery.
- The vehicle is loaded clean and with no personal belongings inside, unless the destination expressly allows otherwise.
Boats - the method
A boat is not a large car and is not loaded like one. The method is chosen after an inspection, on the basis of real dimensions, weight and hull type:
- Inside a container - for craft that fit the usable opening, with or without removing fittings. The best-protected option.
- On a flat rack or open top - where height or beam rules out a closed container.
- RoRo - for craft on their own trailer, where the sailing supports it.
- On a cradle - we build or adapt a support cradle to the shape of the hull, so the weight bears where it should.
- Protection - removing or lashing moving parts, covering or shrink-wrapping, and where needed a crate or timber frame around vulnerable points.
- Engine preparation - draining or sealing fuel and water tanks and disconnecting batteries, to the shipping line’s rules.
Tell us what you have and where it is going, and we will tell you which method applies to your boat, what the destination requires, and what we will not take on.
Documents you need
Greek side
- Deregistration of the vehicle at the competent tax office (after keeping a copy of the registration document).
- Your tax identification number (ΑΦΜ).
- Electronic authorisation for our customs broker.
- A photocopy of the vehicle registration document.
- Confirmation of deregistration from the competent tax office.
- The owner’s passport, and a residence permit where the owner does not hold citizenship of the destination country.
- For a boat: title of ownership, certificate of nationality or navigation licence, and deregistration from the Greek register where that applies.
Destination side
- Confirmation that the particular model is accepted.
- An import approval from the destination authorities, where one is required.
- Our local partner and their customs broker must hold every document required by law before they can give us loading approval.
Requirements differ sharply by destination. We set them out, with the regulations and the official sources, on Vehicles → Australia and Vehicles → USA.
Other documents or procedures may be required, and each country’s laws can change without notice. Contact us and we will give you an up-to-date briefing.
Why us
The vehicle is usually the item a customer worries about most, and it is also the one most likely to be held at destination customs - not because something went wrong in transit, but because a document was missing before it ever sailed. So we check the file before we confirm the loading, not after.
We have been shipping vehicles since 1988, and you are welcome to stand there while yours is loaded. It is our pleasure and honour to serve you.
