Sending documents and parcels from Greece to Australia
Since 1988 a great many Greek-Australians have chosen Kanga for courier services to Australia. We organise any type of shipment: a signed contract, a tender that has to be lodged, church papers, a university document, a passport, or a parcel that has to be in someone’s hands in Melbourne. Documents and small parcels that need to move quickly, with the declaration, the border clearance and the updates all looked after.
We take on all of it, not only the courier leg. We collect from your home or your business, anywhere in Greece. You do not need to worry about the customs paperwork, our own Customs Broker sees to that. Our experienced partners in Australia deliver to the door.

What we send
- Urgent documents - contracts, tenders, powers of attorney, certified copies, notarial deeds.
- Legal and official papers, including documents that have to travel under seal and arrive intact.
- Church and community documents - parish papers, certificates and correspondence for the Greek Orthodox communities in Australia. We have carried this kind of consignment for decades, including a delivery to the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
- Academic and personal documents - degree certificates, transcripts, identity papers.
- Small parcels and samples - anything from an envelope up to a small carton.

We are a family business you can trust
We have been sending to Australia since 1988. Over that time we have built strong ties and partnerships there, including local partners who handle the final delivery. We are a family business, run by the second generation, and we care about the people we work for.
What you get working with us:
- Peace of mind. We know which documents might cause problems at the border. We advise you on the declaration, the steps required and the procedures to follow, so that your shipment reaches its destination.
- We treat an envelope like a shipment. It is tracked, it is accounted for, and someone here knows where it is.
- We are here for you. You can contact us at any time with questions, and we will support you if any delay comes up along the way.
We are a family business that cares about quality and service, and we take responsibility for your shipment from the moment we collect it until it is delivered.
How it works
- Tell us what it is and where it is going. For documents we usually need nothing more than that.
- We collect anywhere in Greece - Athens, Thessaloniki, the mainland, the islands. You do not need to bring it to us.
- We pack it properly. Documents travel flat, sealed and protected. We can send you the packaging if you would rather prepare it yourself.
- We complete the customs declaration. Every consignment leaving for Australia is declared, and we make sure the declaration is correct.
- We arrange the flight and the onward leg, including final delivery to the address in Australia.
- We track it and tell you where it is until it is signed for.
For anything less urgent, there is a slower and more economical service. Tell us the deadline and we will tell you which option actually meets it - sometimes that is the cheaper one.

Border regulations in Australia
Australia runs some of the strictest border controls in the world, and they apply to a padded envelope just as they apply to a container. For documents this is rarely a problem. For anything else in the parcel, it can be.
Usually straightforward
- Printed documents, contracts, certificates and correspondence.
- Commercial samples with no food, plant or animal content.
- Personal effects that are clean, dry and free of soil, seeds or plant material.
Expect scrutiny, or do not send it
- Food of any kind - including the things people most want to post to family. Honey, cheese, cured meat, herbs, nuts and homemade preserves are all biosecurity risk goods.
- Plant material - seeds, dried flowers, herbs, wooden or straw items, anything with bark or plant fibre.
- Animal products - leather, wool, feathers, bone, shell.
- Anything carrying soil or plant residue. Australia’s own guidance singles out footwear and sporting, fishing and camping equipment: it must be clean, dry, and free from soil, seeds and plant material.
- Religious items in wooden or olive-wood frames need checking before they travel.
A correct and accurate declaration is what makes the difference on this lane. Australia’s biosecurity guidance is explicit that goods must be described properly, and a vague description is what gets a parcel opened and held.
We complete the declaration for you, and we will tell you plainly when something in the parcel is going to cause trouble.
Where to check the current rules
These rules change, and the official sources are the only ones that are current. When we arrange a consignment we check them at the time of shipping.
- Australian Border Force - Prohibited goods: what may not be imported at all, and what needs permission.
- Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry - Bringing or mailing goods to Australia: the biosecurity rules that apply to anything sent by post or courier.
- DAFF - Sending or ordering goods from outside Australia: how to prepare, pack and declare goods being sent in.
- BICON: the government database of import conditions, item by item.
The competent authorities are the Australian Border Force for customs and prohibited goods, and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) for biosecurity.
