Luggage left behind at Athens airport or on the Metro

You are already home, and your bag is still in Athens. It is on a shelf in the airport lost property office, or in the Metro’s, or behind a hotel reception desk - and you cannot fly back for it. That is the job we take on: we collect the item on your behalf, pack it properly, and send it on to wherever you are now.

We have been doing this for years, quietly, for travellers who found us after everyone else had said no.

What we collect and send on

Anything you can leave behind on a trip through Athens, as long as it is legal to carry and the people holding it will release it to us:

  • Suitcases, roller bags, backpacks and holdalls left at the airport, at a gate, on the Metro or on the airport bus.
  • Laptops, tablets, phones, cameras and chargers left at security screening or in a lounge.
  • Documents and personal papers - folders, files, certificates and the like.
  • Coats, glasses, medication and the small things that are easy to lose and expensive to replace.
  • Items left in a hotel, an apartment or a rental anywhere we can reach.

We handle the item from the moment it is released to us until it is in your hands. What happens before that - finding it - belongs to whoever is holding it.

Why people call us for this

There is no money in it. A single recovered bag is a great deal of email, a collection across the city, a proper repack and somebody watching a tracking number for as long as it takes. Most companies decline, which is why people arrive here having already been turned away.

We take it because it is the kind of problem we are good at, and because whatever is in that bag is worth more to you than the shipment is to us. We are not the cheapest option and we do not pretend otherwise. What you get instead is one company that owns the whole thing from the shelf in Athens to your front door, and tells you the truth about it at every step.

Customers who have been through it

These are Google reviews, in the customers’ own words. First names only.

“I got onto the Metro train to Airport from an Athens stop…and left my roller bag at the waiting bench in the station. … Kanga had eyes on every moving part.” - Polly

“My son left a backpack at the Athens airport. Kanga Services picked up the backpack and shipped it back to us with ease! It was a stressful situation but they made it so easy. Very easy and professional to work with and to trust with your items.” - Justin

How it works

  1. You report the loss to whoever holds the item. The airport’s lost property service, the Athens Metro’s lost property office, the hotel, the airline. Only they can search, and only they can release what they find. You will be given a reference.
  2. You tell us where it is. Send us the reference, a description of the item, and the address it has to reach. We check what we will need for that route and confirm what we can do.
  3. You authorise us in writing to collect on your behalf. Lost property is not handed to a stranger. A signed authorisation and a copy of your identity document are what make the collection possible.
  4. We collect it and check it. Against your description, in front of the people releasing it, so nothing is in dispute later.
  5. We pack it for the journey. Airline handling and courier handling are not the same thing. A case that survived a holiday will not necessarily survive a shipment unprotected, and a laptop certainly will not.
  6. We book the right service and send you the tracking. Courier or freight, air or sea, depending on what the item is, how big it is and where it is going.
  7. We stay on it until it is delivered. If something stops moving, you hear it from us rather than from a tracking page.

What we need from you

  • A clear description of the item and, if you have it, a photo.
  • Where and when you lost it - the station, the terminal, the flight, the hotel.
  • The reference number the lost property office gave you.
  • A copy of your passport or identity card.
  • A signed authorisation naming us to collect the item on your behalf.
  • The full delivery address, with a phone number and email for the destination.
  • A note of what is inside, for the customs declaration if the item is leaving the EU.

If the item contains a laptop, tablet, phone or anything else with a lithium battery, tell us. Batteries have to be declared and sent on a service that accepts them, and getting that wrong is how a shipment gets stopped. We make the declaration for you.

Where we can send it

Anywhere Kanga ships - which is to say anywhere. The item joins the same courier and freight network we run every day: door to door across Europe, to Australia, to the United States, and to the rest of the world.

We will tell you what it costs before anything moves, and we will tell you honestly when sending an item on is not worth what is inside it.

What we cannot do

We would rather say this at the start than after you have hoped for a week.

  • We cannot search for your item. We are not the airport and not the Metro. If the lost property office has not found it, there is nothing for us to collect.
  • We cannot make anyone release it. The holder decides, on their own rules, and some of them require the owner in person.
  • We cannot handle your paperwork as a traveller - a claim against an airline, an insurance file, a travel document or a visa. We move goods, not personal documentation.
  • We cannot send prohibited or dangerous goods, and some contents can only travel by particular services.
